Ed White, founder and director of Louisville's River City Drum Corps, brought part of his ensemble to Frankfort's Thorn Hill Education Center to lead summer campers in a 4-day percussion workshop. Campers made their own drums and then were taught to play them, learning a variety of rhythmic patterns. River City Drum Corps later participated in a free concert series in Frankfort sponsored by Farmers' Bank.
"I get to let my spirit out," said an animated young musician. "I have the spirit of the drums."
This workshop was funded by a grant from ArtsReach Kentucky, a partnership between the Kentucky Arts Council and The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts that brings arts groups and community agencies together.
