The Kentucky Center Governor’s School for the Arts began last Sunday, June 23, at Transylvania University. Students moved into the dorms, then enjoyed a beautiful brunch and celebrated their acceptance into GSA with their families.
Monday was the start of studio classes. Before heading to their studios, students, staff and faculty were able to enjoy a great performance by internationally recognized jazz pianist and GSA artist-in-residence, Harry Pickens. His performance motivated the students to be confident in learning and growing as an artist.
With the first week heading to its end, students have become accustomed to the campus, the rigorous class schedule, and the cafeteria food. GSA provides them with a strong bonded community and encouragement in the arts. Friendships are blooming both in studio and at the dorms. Residence life RA groups have come closer through community building activities that have taken place throughout the week.
Now, we are kicking off the weekend with community service, giving back to the community that allows us to have such a wonderful program!
