Due to an increase in State appropriated funding, The Kentucky Center Governor’s School for the Arts (GSA) will serve its largest class ever - 256 students – at Centre College (June 21 – July 11). This is the second year that the GSA Summer Program will take place at Centre College. The program offers conservatory-style study, performances by guest artists, community service activities and much more.
In addition, the program launched a new initiative, The Rising Artists Group, in Eastern Kentucky this spring. The purpose of this group is to help students living in a designated rural area with extreme economic and educational challenges prepare for the GSA annual audition process.
Immediate benefits were realized in that a student from Owsley County did qualify as an alternate attendee for the 2015 program. This is the first time in GSA’s 28 year history that a student from Owsley has achieved this level of recognition.
