"Today Jimi Hendrix approaches avatar status as a recognized spiritual being and master of the music world," writes David Henderson in the closing of his recently published Hendrix biography 'Scuse Me While I Kiss The Sky (Atria), stating with finality, "Jimi Hendrix indeed lives on."
Although his commercial career was a brief four years, and his passing 38 years ago, Jimi Hendrix remains a cornerstone of rock music, an iconic image, an inspiration, an idyllic presence to both fans and fellow musicians.
Writes John Mayer in Rolling Stone (4/14/2004), "Jimi Hendrix is one of those extraordinary hubs of music where everybody lands at some point. Every musician passes through Hendrix International Airport eventually - whether you're a Black Sabbath fan or an Elmore James fan; whether you like Hanson or the Grateful Dead. He is the common denominator of every style of contemporary music."
Jimi Hendrix continues to adorn the cover of rock music magazines every year. He continues to top rock's all-time-best charts. Forbes magazine notes he ranks near the top of deceased musicians in continuing to generate revenue. He is constantly recognized as an inspiration to today's artists.
The "Experience Hendrix Tour" symbolizes the strength and power of Jimi's music. Over the years, hundreds of artists have paid tribute, providing their own covers and interpretations. While they are not re-inventing his music, they borrow from his foundation and build a new platform and shrine. For the Hendrix fan, it's the closest hey can get to Hendrix.
The tribute tour is the only chance fans have to see and hear the last two surviving members of the Hendrix entourage - drummer Mitch Mitchell from the Jimi Hendrix Experience and bassist Billy Cox from the Band of Gypsies.
