Getting arts into classrooms across the Commonwealth is one of the chief missions of The Kentucky Center. But how can teachers find the right artist for their class?
They use the Arts Education Showcase, an online directory of artists, arts educators and cultural attractions, available at www.artsedshowcase.org. The Arts Education Showcase allows teachers and others who book arts-based education programs to search for pre-screened artists and arts organizations by art form, grade levels and other key words.
The Kentucky Center, in partnership with the Center for Rural Development, holds auditions every year to ensure that the artists included in the Showcase are right for Kentucky’s schools, and the 2010 version of the Showcase has just gone online with new information, new artists, and new education programs.
Each Showcase Artist has a webpage in the Directory that includes a description of their program, curriculum connections, booking information and contact information, as well as a 7-minute video-clip featuring performances and/or interviews with the artists. It’s the perfect way for teachers to make the arts a part of every child’s education.
