The last time Wicked rolled through The Kentucky Center, we got the chance to meet veteran Broadway dancer Jeremy McQueen. It seems that Jeremy is one of those remarkable individuals who make a difference wherever they happen to find themselves, and since Jeremy is a touring professional in a major musical production, he has found himself all over the country.
So when he approached Jeff Jamner, our Director of School Programs, about performing some in-school residencies while he was in town, Jeff soon had Jeremy conducting demonstrations, workshops and master classes in classrooms throughout the region. Jeremy’s classes were so successful, in fact, that with help from the Gheens Great Expectations program, we were able to bring Jeremy back recently. He spent a week with students at Western Middle School, Lincoln Elementary, the Youth Performing Arts School, and he even helped choreograph a performance by the youth dance company Str8 Legit for our ArtsReach Showcase.
You can read about the Western Middle School dance program, and about Jeremy’s involvement, in this column that ran recently in the Courier-Journal.
